Tiburon delivers great handling, great ride

Thanks to a sport-tuned, fully independent four-wheel suspension, Tiburon delivers precise handling. Hyundai engineers began by designing Tiburon with a relatively long wheel base, a wide track and a stiff, rigid body. An extra front reinforcing crossmember further strengthens the front end, maximizing suspension performance and reducing vibration.

Tiburon's front suspension features MacPherson struts with a pivoting arm at each wheel to precisely control vertical movement of the strut and wheel assembly. The rear suspension incorporates an advanced multi link attachment between the wheels and the body. Each wheel reacts independently to bumps, potholes and other road surface imperfections to deliver better control and a smoother ride.

Controlling spring oscillations at each wheel is a gas-filled hydraulic shock absorber. These gas-filled shocks deliver a smoother ride, especially over rough surfaces and when the car is driven aggressively. Tiburon also features anti-roll bars at both front and rear to reduce body roll and improve overall handling. Other refinements include optimized spring rates and damping settings for optimum directional stability.

Tiburon's steering system is a precise, responsive rack-and-pinion setup that delivers maximum control with more positive road feel at high speeds and greater steering ease at low speeds when it's most needed. All Tiburons have power-assisted, ventilated disc brakes in front and solid discs at the rear. A full four-channel anti-lock braking system (ABS) is available as an option.

Tiburon meets the road on high-performance P195/55HR-15 steel-belted radial tires mounted on handsome aluminum alloy wheels.

The Tiburon is a car that doesn't look like anyone else's. It's a sleek, stylish automobile that will look contemporary for years to come. Of course, Tiburon's looks weren't designed just for aesthetics. The car's aerodynamic shape was computer-designed and wind tunnel tested to insure maximum body strength, improved efficiency and reduced wind noise. Tiburon's slim profile roof pillars not only look good, they also give the driver a 330-degree field of visibility.

The integrated front air dam gives Tiburon a muscular appearance, while providing maximum cooling efficiency.

And great looks don't stop outside the doors. The revised interior features a dashboard with easy-to-read instruments and gauges surrounded by high-tech trim. The seats have been upgraded with additional lumbar support and improved cushions.

Inside the spacious cabin is a driver-oriented cockpit with comfortable amenities. Since Tiburon was designed for people who love to drive, it has advanced, ergonomically designed seats providing maximum comfort even on long trips. Multi-level foam cushions offer firm support to driver and passengers, and thigh bolsters offer additional lateral support on those winding roads that Tiburon owners will want to seek out.

The 2000 Tiburon features a six-way adjustable driver's seat with a tilt adjuster and extra lumbar support. Sporty full cloth seat trim is standard, and a leather package featuring two-tone leather seats, steering wheel and gear shift knob is optional.

Tiburon's instrument panel combines finely contoured good looks with highly tactile, logically placed controls and easy-to-read gauges. The four-spoke steering wheel is mounted on a tilt column for added comfort and convenience.

Since Tiburon is a Hyundai, it comes with a comprehensive list of standard features that are extra-cost options on many competitors' sporty coupe models.

That's not all. Hyundai also provides the original owners with industry-leading limited powertrain coverage -- 10 years or 100,000 miles. Even if the car is sold, Hyundai backs Tiburon's powertrain for five years or 60,000 miles. Corrosion coverage is provided for five years or 100,000 miles. There is no deductible on any of these coverages.

Environmental awareness also is reflected in every Tiburon Hyundai builds. Hyundai has eliminated the use of asbestos in gaskets, brakes and clutch pads, and all plastic parts are stamped with internationally recognized identification symbols to facilitate recycling. In addition, all Hyundai air conditioning systems and the company's manufacturing process are free of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs).

Hyundai Motor America, headquartered in Fountain Valley, Calif., is a subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Co. of Korea. Hyundai cars are distributed throughout the United States by Hyundai Motor America and are sold and serviced through nearly 500 dealerships nationwide.
