Nominations sought for Pueblo Hall of Fame

Do you know someone who through extraordinary efforts has helped make Pueblo a better place to live?

If so, the Pueblo Community College Foundation wants you to nominate him or her for induction into the Pueblo Hall of Fame. Both living and deceased persons are eligible to be nominated.

Persons chosen to the Pueblo Hall of Fame do not have to be Pueblo natives nor, in the case of contemporary nominees, current residents of Pueblo County. Their areas of achievements may include, but are not limited to, education, business and labor, arts and humanities, philanthropy, government, law, science and technology, and health and human services.

Nominees newly selected are honored each year at the Pueblo Hall of Fame Induction Banquet that is held each March in PCC’s Fortino Ballroom. Besides being honored at the banquet, inductees also have their photos and achievements displayed in the ballroom.

To date, 42 individuals have been inducted into the Hall of Fame. The most recent inductees, last March, were Maggie Divelbiss, Executive Director of the Sangre de Cristo Arts & Conference Center; Bill Hybl, Chairman and ChiefExecutive Officer of the El Pomar Foundation; and John Francis Keating, former long-time school superintendent who was inducted posthumously for making many noteworthy contributions to the city in the early 1900s.

“The Hall of Fame gives us the chance to recognize those who have greatly enhanced the quality of life here,” said Diane Porter, Executive Director of the PCC Foundation. “The list of inductees is significant, and we hope other quality individuals will be nominated so that the community can pay tribute to them as well.”

Submitted nominations must include a narrative on the nominee’s qualifications and at least three letters of support from persons who have pertinent information about the nominee. The deadline for submitting nominations is Nov. 13.

Nomination forms may be obtained at the PCC Foundation office, located in Room 108 of the Central Administration Building on the Pueblo campus. More information is available by calling 549-3301.

The 14th annual Pueblo Hall of Fame Induction Banquet will be held on March 5, 2004. All proceeds from the banquet go to the PCC Scholarship Fund that is used to make education more attainable for students.
