Education, Educación
No matter how you spell it, we need to make it part of our everyday
vocabulary. We need to be involved constantly, not just when we read a story
like the one on our front page. We need to stop blaming teachers, they are like
you and I -- not all are perfect. Most of the teachers I know are dedicated and
work very hard at their discipline. Why do some schools produce more than
others? That is the question; perhaps it has to do with parent involvement.
I have been to a few gatherings intended to promote higher education in the
Hispanic community; each was very disappointing. The attendance by Hispanics or
lack there of, was inexcusable. They just did not show up.
There were many pieces of material present intended to assist those
interested in attaining a college degree. Then I must remember we are not
helping out that much in graduating these students from high school. Can we
change?
I can see why many of the organizations that are tying to make a difference
are frustrated.
We do not have the answer; if we did, we would share it with you
immediately…in the coming weeks this newspaper will be offering a lot of
valuable information on educational opportunities.
