Si Se Puede
It was the best of times, and the worst of times: that’s it, I won’t go on. I
have seen that quote so much since magical Tuesday. At best one thinks, he is
speaking of Colo Springs and Pueblo. One has a convention Center; the other has
been talking about it for too long. Pueblo voters did not agree to expansion of
their Convention Center. Then again perhaps the two cities that were spoken of
hundreds of year ago, how did the author know we might have a similar scenario
in El Paso County? On the school issues, Fountain FC that has some of the best
educational facilities in the state, (They have laptops) passes the increase,
Dist 11 and Dist 2 have the issues defeated. I think it’s the water we are
sending down to Fountain creek, some thing is in the water. That’s it, I will
say no more. You must understand as a Colorado native from the Arkansas Valley,
the water issue is very close to me and it lingers.
We tried to inform you that amendment 46 was evil, do not vote for it. It
passed in pueblo and El Paso Counties. We have work to do. That brings us to the
President Elect Obama issue. When I arrived at the Antlers hotel so see how the
democrats were doing, I was taken back by the numbers in attendance. I saw many
trying to get in, but were told they were at capacity. These were volunteers,
who walk, made phone calls; I hope that doesn’t dim the enthusiasm in the
future.
I happened to walk in, right in the middle of Sen. McCain’s concession
speech, I was surprised by the reaction of so many, tears, smiles, some still
stunned, not believing Obama had been elected. Si Se Puede, is the theme across
our nation this week. This is one phrase I heard loudly in Pueblo; from Pres
elect Obama and all became bi-lingual for perhaps that moment. Whatever side of
the fence your are on, we should all be proud of the voter turnout. I must take
this time to smile with those whose names are on the granite wall in DC. They
are looking down and smiling. We miss you, God Bless America
